India men’s national football team, led by coach Igor Stimac, lost 1-0 to Lebanon in the 3rd place playoff of the King’s Cup 2023 football tournament, played at 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiang Mai on Sunday.
Both teams had a number of opportunities to score, but it was the 77th minute of the match when the hosts scored thanks to a bicycle kick. The Indian national football team (MFF) went for a high press early on in the first half of the match.
India, ranked 99th in the world by FIFA, created some good opportunities but failed to convert them. Lebanon, on the other hand, finished the first half one place below India in the rankings.
The visitors maintained a strong hold on the ball near the Indian penalty area and put pressure on the Indian backline, led by skipper Sandesh Yadav and defender Anwar Ali. The right-back of India, Ashish Rai, was the spearhead of the team’s attack during the first half.
