The right-handed batsman made his comeback to the Indian side after a lengthy injury layoff in the Asia Cup 2023 Asia Cup opener against Pakistan. However, Shreyas is out of action for the second time due to an injury.
Rohit Sharma confirmed Iyer’s injury during the toss on Sunday. The skipper also said that it was a “last-minute change” in the XI. Shreyas was replaced by KL Rahul, who also made a comeback from a hamstring injury.
Iyer, the No.4 batsman in the 50-over format, has been out of the international limelight since March this year and missed the IPL owing to a back injury. His comeback in the Asia Cup was a huge boost for India as they gear up for the home ODI World Cup; however, a possible back injury has now become a major concern for the management.
