A private meeting was held during the G20 Summit which is currently being held in the country of India. The Prime Minister of Italy (Giorgia Meloni) conveyed their country’s plans of actively withdrawing from the Road Initiative & President Xi Jinping (China) led belt. This decision came after the pact of investment had become a test for the relations of the US (United States) and Italy.
This decision was taken after a discussion took place during the G20 Summit that is being held in India. Meloni assured during the meeting, to Premier Li about Italy’s goals of exiting the initiative of creating ambitious infrastructure – with the intention of keeping positive relations with Beijing.
Italy had formerly joined the Initiative of Belt and Road back in the year 2019.
The decision to withdraw from the pact was a very deliberate and careful decision on the part of the government of Italy. They have taken all their time to relay and communicate about this shift to Beijing.
